Who we are

We are women who are in or related to someone in the fishing industry.  We understand the difficulties, danger, unpredictability and sometimes financial burden the fishing life can bring.  Our board is comprised of women who have dealt with this first hand and women who want to help our community. Collaboratively, we all look forward to helping more people who need.

Karen Murdoch
Founding President

Karen has been devoted to helping fishing families since the beginning. As founding president, she knew first-hand what it was like to experience life as a fishing wife. Her husband Dave Murdoch owned and operated the Jack Tar for years. He continues to work in the wholesale fishing industry. They have a daughter, Regan who loves the fishing traditions and wants to carry them with her thru life.

Kate is a special education teacher at Nauset Middle School. She grew up in L.A. and loves long walks with her dogs, a good beach day, and a fresh Moscow Mule.

In memoriam

Alison barabe

January 28, 1973 -July 30, 2016

We sadly lost one of our WOFF sisters in 2016. Alison was full of life and the glue of our crew. She was married to Billy, a year-round wild shellfish harvester and lifelong fisherman who has crewed on every type of vessel, and the mother to their beautiful daughter, Laura. Alison was the office manager at Stage Harbor Marine; she loved cooking and hated visors. We miss her everyday.
